Week 26 :: Exam Week

We took our end-of-term exams this week. So the answers you see below are the answers that appeared on their exams.

Eli:

Math
I took a math exam this week. I got everything right!

LA
40 Thieves

There were two boys. One set off on a journey and the other heard people riding on horses. He climbed a tree and saw them go into a cave. He heard the captain of the 40 thieves say, “Open Sesame.” Then he saw them come out and say, “Close Sesame.” So he went in and found gold and treasures and brought some home to show his wife. His wife was really surprised and he told her where he got it. Then his wife asked his brother’s wife to give her a scale so she could measure something. The brother’s wife put sticky stuff on it and when it was returned she found a piece of gold stuck on it. So then they realized that their family had found gold. So the brother asked the other brother where he got the gold. And he said, “I’m not going to tell you.” So his brother said, “Then you will lose all and I will get all.” So he told him. His brother went to the cave and got as much as he could carry. Then the robbers found him and cut him into 4 pieces and hung him on the wall. The brother found him and carried him back to his wife and they buried him.

Science
Squirrels have tiny hands like us but a lot tinier and they are brown. Chipmunks have brown tail and a white stripe down them. Squirrels are grey, brown or black and they have long tails that are curvy and hairy and they go up their back. They have strong teeth so they can open up the shells of nuts so they can eat the inside. They hide their nuts in trees. They will also bury them in the ground. They store them. They do like bears do sort, they rest in the winter, but they don’t go to sleep. Their ears are tiny and pointy. Sometimes their homes can be low in the tree or high.

Tech
We made a HUGE snow pile this morning before we started our last day of exams. Thank goodness t we did it this morning because the snow everywhere else melted by lunchtime, but our snow pile was still there.

Piano
My dad is starting to play the duet with me on "This Land is Your Land." It's fun, but a little hard.

Kai:

Math
I did a math test this week. It wasn't bad. I got everything right.

LA
Odysseus and Telemachus
When Telemachus was going to find his dad he got a trireme and sailed off from his mother to find his find. He went to this one kingdom to see if they knew where his dad was. The king of the land told Telemachus to go to the ocean and to hold on to this sea man who would turn into all sorts of animals and sea monsters. So Telemachus did it and held on and they held on long enough that the sea man held on long enough that he turned into himself. So he asked where his father was. Then he was able to get a ship and leave the island. Now he is going to find his father.

Science
Squirrels like to eat nuts. They make their nests up in a tree. Sometimes it is a giant twig ball and sometimes it is in a hole in the tree. They either bury their nuts or they stuff them into a tree. When they bury them they sometimes forget they are buried them and then they grow into a tree, which helps the forest.

Tech
I didn't have tech this week because of exams.

Orchestra
We got to see Schoolhouse Rocks Live on stage this week. It was awesome! I laughed a lot.

Emmie:

Math
I completed a math test my dad made for me. I forgot some of the shortcuts I had learned so it took me longer than it would have if I had remembered.

LA
For my exam this week I wrote this about The Witch of Blackbird Pond.

Kit did not know how
To make soap, or knit.
Kit was so used to
Having slaves that she
Was not much help when
She first arrived in
North America.

Now she's getting better
At cooking, weeding, and work,
And now she's getting used to
The food, and bed, and church.

Science
Clouds are water. All precipitation comes out of a cloud. The sun evaporates water on the earth’s surface. The water goes up into the sky and collects into a cloud.

Glaze is really cold rain and when it lands it freezes. It’s called glaze because it leaves a glaze on everything. Hail is really cold water and freezes on its way down to earth. Sleet is freezing rain.

Tech
We didn't have tech class because of exams this week.

Orchestra
We got to go see Schoolhouse Rocks Live on stage this week. It was a lot of fun. All of the actors were kids except for one. They were really good.
