Week 22 :: Field trips!!!

**This week we went on TWO field trips! We ventured down to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and then got a tour of the Standard Examiner newspaper printer.**

Eli:

Math
In math we made patterns. I did  AB, ABC, AAB with colored tiles. Then I did increasing patterns. That's when we do an AB or ABC pattern but each time you change a color you add a tile  (1 blue tile, 2 green tiles, 3 blues tiles, 4 green tiles, etc.)

LA
In Understood Betsy she went to school. Now she is in school but only 3 people are in her grade but there are like 15 people in her school. Betsy read so good that she was in a higher grade. But her math wasn't as good so she was in a grade lower. She was so confused that it was allowed to be in a lots of grades.

Science
I read a story about a squirrel that the kids named Bobby. He stored nuts in a tree and at the bottom of the tree in a hole in the ground. He had a wife and they had babies. One of the human kids found the nest and saw the babies with red and white fur.

Tech
Today I worked on making a hotel with my brother and sisters. I used KEVA blocks, magnet blocks, Calico Critters and the doll house furniture. We made a lobby with a rug and a desk for check out. We also made a pool with a diving pool. We also had  dock and some boats.

Piano
I really like my recital piece and practice it a lot. Now on that piece (I call it PPPP) I am learning to play medium, loud, quiet and really quiet, which is mf, f, p, and pp.

Kai:

Math
In math we did parts and wholes and made equations out of them. I had to make an addition equation and a subtraction equation out of each one.

LA
Today we started a new book called Seaman. It is about the dog that travelled with Lewis and Clark. In the beginning of the book there was his owner and they were walking down by the two rivers that formed the Ohio River. They walked to a hunter who was shooting ducks. He shot a duck that fell in the ater. His owner had Seaman go and fetch the duck out of the water and bring it to him. The hunter was red mad but the owner was only playing a prank on him. He said, "Give the duck to him," pointing to the the hunter, whose name was Meriwether Lewis. He  said, "mister, you had me there for a second," laughing. Then the owner said the dog is not for sale, he is promise to go to sea. Then Lewis  asked if he would be willing to sell the dog to him if he was going to sea as well. And the owner said, you're not going to sea, you're waiting for a keelboat and that is for a river journey. Then Lewis told him he is going to the Pacific Ocean.

Science
In science there was a squirrel. There were two kids and when they would whistle to the squirrel he would come. In the spring he mated with a girl and then they made a nest. The kids climbed into the tree during the summer and saw the baby squirrels. In the fall they collected more food and then in the winter they just curled up and went to sleep.

Tech
My mechanical hand is finished. It has three switches. The middle switch makes it turn left and right. The switch on the left makes it go down and the switch on the right makes it close around something.

Orchestra
We are learning a few songs. We also learned the notes on the G string: open G, A, B and C.

Emmie:

Math
Today I learned how to bisect a triangle. Bisecting means finding the middle of a line.

LA
In the Witch of Blackbird Pond they had two men over to dinner, a priest and another man from the ship that Kit came over one. He was a bookworm. He was being kind of weird about the dinner, "Yes, ummm, it was really nice." He was acting a little paranoid, like something bad was going to happen. So,

Science
In Activity Days we made Elephant Toothpaste. We used food coloring, hydrogen peroxide, yeast and dish soap. We mixed them up in a certain order and they fizz into a big mess. It happens because base molecules that want to receive a proton and an acid wants to give one away and when they are all together it gets kind of crazy. It created an exothermic reaction.

Tech
I'm trying to find a way to make the pump on my hand to pump up itself. So I found a transformer that spun a pole so I put a gear on it. Then I put another gear on it but they only spin each other sometimes. I'm trying to find a way to make it work.

Orchestra
In orchestra we did belts. This is the way we pass off skills. I have 4 belts.
